Alvin was born in the small town of Levitsville ,NewYork.
Actually, this is a small community of immigrant Jews that settled
here in 1802.
The Swartz family has always been musical and in show business.
Morty Swartz was the finest Blues harmonica player in the New York
area in those days. Little Alvin came along in 1957, the son of the top
paid guitarist in Levitville at the time. High in demand.. playing with such
greats as Big Al lewinski's big band,The Red Levine trio featuring Red on Piano,
and other top players.
Alvin began digging the jazz sounds of Tony Mottola, Al Kooper, and other great Jewish guitarists. Alvin played in several blues, jazz and fusion bands in his day...working with some top players. He is well versed in the theory of music and the myths of jazz and blues and the strange relationships these two forms have.
In 1977 at the height of his career Alvin was struck down by a speeding car while crossing the street near his home in Levetsville on the edge of death all he could say was,"I want my guitar" and " Tell Laura I love her" Alvin faded in and out for months.
Then one night,Alvin speaks of a visit he got from a beautiful creature. He describes her as an angel.
On the verge of death ,doctors even gave up hope, an angel came to Alvin and told him. This is what Alvin said she told him, "Not now... you must bring joy to the world with your guitar, you will make so many smile with your music." She then vanished, instantaniously!!
Alvin began to recover.
Today Alvin lives in the Indiana , Jeff-Louisville Ky area because as he said "this is where the best music is being made." He is available to sit in with any band who asks. He made close friends with Bluestowns Guitarist HowlinBlind MuddySlim. They have jammed a few times.
Howlin hooked Alvin up with some local musicians, and he now jams with such greats as Bluestown, Mean Dean The Blues Machine, and many others.
Alvin Swartz' latest project... Alvin Swartz is a great guitarist playing with suchgreats as Leon Franz and his Alnight Boogie Band, Huey Levine and The Kosar Brothers Blues Band.
Alvin has tutored other greats. Estabon andGarth Brooks as well as some big names.Alvin is also a humanitarian that's why he has started a benefit that he plans on hosting every year bringing in his many friends to play for free to raise money for his favorite cause.The Middle Income No Maid service Jewish community.
"So many of us middle Income Jewish people have to live without maid service and it is just unacceptable"Alvintold Guitar Player magazine in an interview last month.
"I was brought up with my head hung in shame because we couldn't afford a decent maid" "And I don't think we should have to live like that anymore"
Said Alvin,"Thats why I am starting this benefit to raise money to help pay for maid service for some lucky middle Income Jewish families like I came from."
This is a noble cause and one plight that has gone over looked for too long.
